Sacred Water Run Video from Hopi Arizona to Mexico City - 4 minutes
Sacred Water Run Video from Mexico City to Hopi Arizona – 5 minutes
In the summer of 2010 GAYA in collaboration with Kalpulli Kuauhilama will sponsor the Atlachinolli Water-Fire Ceremonial Run. The purpose of this spiritual run is to pray for new life for all people, one that empowers respect for the natural world, and honors all life on this planet. At this crucial time that will determine the collective destiny of humanity, it is time to intertwine our rituals and ceremonies for a common vision of unity, respect and consciousness.
This year we will use bio-diesel buses, plan zero waste events and give ecological demonstrations, to leave a living example of our commitment to our Earth. Their will be a strong emphasis on the critical situation of our planetary waters and the fragile state of our earth. A team of Emissaries will arrive in the communities a day before the runners to give hands-on green demonstrations, share “E.A.R.T.H.” a multi-media presentation, and to assist with specific community service projects.
Upon the arrival of the runners we will share prayers, ceremonial dances and present a gift from the Mexica people as a symbol of spiritual and cultural unity. All people will be invited to participate in our ceremonies and add their collective prayers to the intent of this journey. The energy of the run gives inspiration, hope and strength in a time of great challenges. It empowers the people of these nations to continue working to keep their traditions alive and inspires all who participate to return to a more respectful and sacred way of living.
The run will take approximately forty four days and will pass through more than twenty two different indigenous territories and major cities beginning on June 21 st, 2010 in Tenochtitlan, Mexico and arriving on August 2 nd in the Lakota Nation in South Dakota, USA.
The History

In the spring of 2006, the Hopi Nation completed a Ceremonial Run over 2,000 miles to Tenochtitlan, Mexico. They ran with sacred water they gathered from around the world and from their sacred land in Hopi nation, Arizona. Their objective was to reach the Global Water Forum that was taking place in Mexico City and share with the nations present, their message of how sacred the water is and how it needs to be seen and respected as a vital element for all life. After the Global Water Forum they were received ceremonially with great honor by the Mexica (Aztec) people and other native tribes. Renowned Dr. Masaru Emoto, author of “The Secret Life of Water” was also present to receive the runners. He stated, “water is telling us to take a much deeper look at our selves. When we do look at our selves through the mirror of water, the message becomes amazingly, crystal, clear. We know that human life is directly connected to the quality of our water, both within and all around us.”
In response to the Hopi, the Mexica (Aztec) people made a commitment to run from Mexico City back to Hopi carrying the sacred water and the element that is most sacred to the Mexica people, the Fire. This is what became known as the Atlachinolli 2008 run.
This spiritual run carried a prayer for a new life for all people and respect for the natural world. This run strengthened our voice and identity as one people, through the continued effort and work of sharing cultures through ceremony and prayer. Another important aspect of the run was to pass on sacred teachings and ways of life to families so they could learn to live with respect and harmony and be able to help restore balance on the Earth. At least 3,000 people who attended the gatherings and ceremonies were positively impacted by this Ceremonial Run, not including the numbers of people who witnessed it through the media and contacted us after the run for more information or to become involved.
The Earth Presentation is multi-media presentation given in Schools, Community Events and at Conferences by young leaders. The presentation provides education and the necessary tools to inspire, mobilize, and empower young people to transform themselves, their communities, and their environment towards a world that seeks balance with nature and a sustainable future for all life. We focus on youth leadership, providing resources to a new generation of emerging leaders, through a process of education, networking, and taking action. These processes are inspired, planned and implemented by young people with the guidance of experienced mentors. By carrying out these practices in our own lives, we become a living example of the change we wish to see in the world.
